That CultureCast Podcast…

I’ve called it “That CultureCast Podcast” because I love “That Peter Crouch Podcast” - no more reason than that. Just doing my bit to pass the pod (for those in the know).

I digress…

The CultureCast is the brainchild of my friends at Bind - in the podcast series they talk to people in business about culture and what it means to them, so I was very happy to be asked to be a guest for episode number 2.

In my career so far, I’ve worked in a whole range of organisations with varying different cultures. From the cut throat, work hard/play hard PR agency culture, to the work-to-live Aussie culture in Sydney (where you check out at 5pm to go to the beach), to a fail-fast, innovative technology company in the heart of the city of London.

I have learned a bit about what works for me and what culture I want for Surge - even though it’s just me, the culture of my company is really important. As a funny little example, Max, who hosts this podcast, initially found it strange that I come into WeWork every morning smart and in heels when I have no meetings in the diary. One day, he asked me why. My answer was that it is a very conscious thing. I feel ready to go, ready to tackle the day, ready to be “Surge” when I am dressed to impress - even if the only person I’m impressing is myself! Wherever I have worked, I have never got on with dress down days. Just doesn’t suit me, therefore it doesn’t suit my company. Simple really!

I talk about failing fast, showing vulnerability, being honest and never forgetting to pack your aprons in this podcast. Hope you enjoy it.
