Surging into 2020
Surge Communications is open for business.
Setting up on my own is something I first thought about around a decade ago. It was a New Year’s Day conversation with a very good friend on the white sandy beaches of the Whitsunday Islands, Australia. We brainstormed company names, talked about what our company would look like and wrote the possible list of names on the back of a packet.
It wasn’t the right time for me (my friend on the other hand has been up and running with her agency for over five years in Sydney) and in the past ten years I have gained invaluable experience and worked with some fantastic communications professionals across brands including Hilton, Marriott and Trainline.
Last year was one of ups and downs, with the biggest of the downs in September 2019 with the tragic demise of great British travel brand, Thomas Cook, where I was Head of Communications for Thomas Cook Airlines in the UK.
From a communications perspective it was as unique as it was challenging. The highs were really high and the lows, really low. I’ve always loved PR and managing reputation and even in those dark final hours at Thomas Cook, the impact and importance of having a robust communications function in place was so clear to me. Communications couldn’t save Thomas Cook, but I am really proud of the work of the team to the very end.
Looking to the future as a Consultant with my new business, Surge Communications, I look forward to working with bold, creative, interesting people and brands to help manage reputation and provide communications support.
